Flexible Classrooms

The advantage to a flexible classroom is the ability to allow the classroom to disappear, everyone is in the front of the room no matter where they are. Utilizing the mobility of the furniture, professors can arrange their classes in a way that strengthens learning, often breaking students into teams that allow for collective intelligence. Leading the new direction are Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and Education, Cindy Finelli and her postdoc Aaron Johnson, who are researching the impact of the classroom space on faculty teaching and student learning as well as Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Steve Yalisove an advocate of building up teams into "learning machines".
