An annual required meeting where MSE PhD students present research progress, discuss data, analysis, challenges, and receive feedback from their dissertation committee. The data meeting is held with the student and their PhD dissertation committee. The committee will provide constructive feedback on the student’s work.
MSE Degree Requirement:
At least one data meeting is required per year. The data meeting is scheduled no later than 4 years after initial enrollment. Final defense is expected within 1 year after the data meeting.
Committee Composition:
The PhD student’s data meeting committee should consist of the same members as their dissertation committee and follow the same guidelines. Dissertation committees must have at least four members, three of whom are members of the graduate faculty and two of whom are from the doctoral candidate’s home program.
Meeting Schedule:
- Frequency: at least 1 meeting within 1 year of expected defense.

- Submit a data progress report at least one week before the meeting. This report should include current data status, challenges faced and next steps.
- Prepare a brief presentation (10-15 minutes) summarizing the key points of the report.
