The following materials and equipment associated with this procedure present exposure or physical health hazards. Safety precautions are prudent and mandatory.

The band saw has a very sharp blade moving at high speeds. Keep all body parts away from blade.


Prior to performing this procedure, the following safety equipment must be accessible and ready for use: (e.g. chemical fume hood, biological safety cabinet, laminar flow hood, chemical spill kits)


Protective Equipment:

Prior to performing this procedure, the following personal protective equipment must be obtained and ready for use: (e.g. acid resistant gloves, safety eyewear, lab coat, chemical splash apron)

Safety glasses, long pants and closed toed shoes must be worn at all times.

Waste Disposal:

This procedure will result in the follow regulated waste which must be disposed of in compliance with environmental regulations.

Clean up your work area when finished!! Scraps pieces should be removed from the machine. Metal goes in the scrap metal bin, other trash goes in the trash can.


In the event that a hazardous material spills during this procedure, be prepared to execute the emergency procedure below.

  1. Select the proper Blade Type for the piece you are cutting
  2. Select the proper Blade Speed using the blade speed selector.
  3. Adjust the Blade Guide to be approximately 1/4" above the work piece.
  4. For cutting small pieces always use something to push the piece through with i.e. a piece of wood. Your fingers should never be closer than 2" from the blade.
  5. As you near the end of the cut reduce the pressure on the piece.
  6. Apply only moderate pressure on the work piece. Let the tool do the work. Applying to much pressure will cause the blade to break.
  7. Round stock must be clamped in a V-block to be cut
