Hazards:

The following materials and equipment associated with this procedure present exposure or physical health hazards. Safety precautions are prudent and mandatory.

Furnaces and contents may be at very high temperatures. Caution must be taken to avoid burns.



Controls:

Prior to performing this procedure, the following safety equipment must be accessible and ready for use: (e.g. chemical fume hood, biological safety cabinet, laminar flow hood, chemical spill kits)

None. These furnaces are to be used only for heat treatment of materials. DO NOT use the furnaces for combustion or incineration of materials.



Protective Equipment:

Prior to performing this procedure, the following personal protective equipment must be obtained and ready for use: (e.g. acid resistant gloves, safety eyewear, lab coat, chemical splash apron)

Wear safety glasses at all times when in 2231 H. H. Dow. Wear long pants and close toed shoes (no shorts or sandals). Wear face shield, heat resistant glove, heat resistant apron, and heat resistant arm sleeves when putting in or taking out any samples in the furnace.



Waste Disposal:

This procedure will result in the follow regulated waste which must be disposed of in compliance with environmental regulations.

None. These furnaces are to be used only for heat treatment of materials. DO NOT use the furnaces for combustion or incineration of materials.



Spill:

In the event that a hazardous material spills during this procedure, be prepared to execute the emergency procedure below.

Instructions:


Temperature: degrees Celcius Ramp rate: degrees Celcius/min. Dwell time: hours If you want to manually bring the furnace up to a certain temperature, hold down the up arrow key and watch the set temperature increase. Let go of the arrow key when you reach the set temperature that you want. The furnace will immediately start to heat up. Remember to change it back to room temperature by hold down the down arrow key after you finish with the furnace.

TO PROGRAM CONTROLLER

  1. Hold button 1, until "Pnr1" appears on the display.
  2. Press button 1 one time. "Pr1" (ramp rate) will appear.
  3. Use the up and down arrow keys to select the desired ramp rate.
  4. Press button 1 again to select "PL1" . Use the up and down arrows to select desired dwell temperature.
  5. Press button 1 again to select "Pd1" (dwell time). Use the up and down arrow keys to select desired dwell time.
  6. To continue adding ramp rates, follow the above instructions. To end press the down arrow until "end" is displayed on screen. NOTE: THE FINAL RAMP SHOULD COOL THE FURNACE TO 25 degrees Celcius.
  7. After all programs have been entered, press button 3 to begin the program.
  8. To terminate program at any time after the program has started, press the up and down arrows simultaneously.
  9. When "E" is displayed, the program is finished.
