Growth Studies of Nitride nanostructures: compositional uniformity, defect formation, and crystal shape

The Millunchick group spent the last several years examining the structural quality and compositional homogeneity of nitride nanostructures. We elucidated coalescence-induced defects development and subsequent degradation of the optical performance of LED structures. We also characterized strain-driven formation of quantum dots, and stacking fault-induced branching in nanowires. Now, we are expanding our studies of InGaN-based structures and extend our expertise to the dilute Sb/Bi nitride materials system. Specifically, we will examine the compositional homogeneity, defect formation, strain relaxation, and crystal shape development in these nanostructures.
