NanoFET

The nanoparticle field extraction thruster, nanoFET, is an electrostatic propulsion concept that utilizes nano-electromechanical systems (NEMS) to transport, charge, extract and accelerate nano-propellant. Of the four components in nanoFET system Ð propellant reservoir, piezoelectric vibration source, nanosieve and electrode gates - nanosieve plays a critical role in deciding the size of propellant and hence the performance of propeller. Our part of project is to employ focused ion beam (FIB) and electron beam lithography (EBL) to prototype and fabricate sub-100nm nanosieve that is mechanically robust for the task of propeller.
