The development of synthetic accesses towards different poly(paraphenyleneethynylene)s is discussed. The use of Pd-catalyzed reactions for the construction of PPEs and the exploit of alkyne metathesis will be treated in this talk. In the second part, the optical and electronic properties of these PPEs are described and some of their potential applications in biosensing and as composite materials with gold and spinel nanoparticles are highlighted.
