Associate Professor Ashwin Shahani, winner of the 2026 TMS-AIME Robert Lansing Hardy Award

MSE is pleased to announce that MSE Associate Professor Ashwin Shahani was recently selected as the 2026 recipient of the TMS-AIME Robert Lansing Hardy Award.

The award is presented annually to a young person in the broad fields of metallurgy and materials science for exceptional promise of a successful career, rather than for any specific accomplishment. The broad fields of metallurgy and materials science include minerals processing, extractive, physical or adaptive metallurgy, and metal processing.

The award began with Arthur C. Hardy’s donation to the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME), in memory of his son Robert, who died suddenly at the age of 25, to create a medal “as an inspiration to many young men in their formative years.” As an educator most of his life, Arthur Hardy was keenly aware of the importance of motivating young professionals to strive for superior achievement.

Shahani will be officially presented with the award at the TMS Annual Meeting in San Diego, March 15-19.

Congratulations, Ashwin!
