Kathleen Chou named AIME Henry deWitt Smith Scholar

MSE is pleased to announce that Kathleen Chou (a Ph.D. candidate in the Marquis group) has been selected by The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) as a 2020 AIME Henry deWitt Smith Scholar.

Funded by the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME), the purpose of the scholarship is "to further the mineral industries by affording educational opportunities in the arts and sciences pertaining to those industries, particularly by assisting worthy students in the mining, metallurgical and petroleum departments of leading colleges and universities."

"I am very thankful to TMS and AIME for this honor and support in my graduate degree," Chou said. "I have been a member of TMS and Material Advantage since my undergraduate degree and have had tremendous opportunities for professional development and career growth as a student member. I have been able to share my research through conference presentations, lead a student-organized symposium on science policy and materials research, and meet many other students and researchers within the materials community. These interactions have enriched my graduate school experience and have allowed me to continuously develop my technical and professional skills. After completing my degree, I am interested in continuing to develop my technical skill set at a national laboratory or in industry research and development."

Chou will officially receive the award at the TMS Annual Meeting in San Diego, which runs February 23-27.
