Po-Yu Kung receives international students fellowship
Po-Yu Kung, second-year PhD candidate in the Li group
MSE is pleased to announce that Po-Yu Kung (Li group) has received a Rackham International Students Chia-Lun Lo Fellowship for 2024-2025.
The Rackham International Student Fellowships assist outstanding international students; the Chia-Lun Lo Fellowship is specifically given to students who have earned a degree from a university in Taiwan. A second-year PhD candidate, Kung came to U-M in Fall 2023 after earning two degrees from National Taiwan University.
The focus of Kung's research in the Li Lab is on the charge transfer properties of single-particle battery materials.
According to Kung: "My research focuses on understanding the electronic and ionic conductivity of single-particle battery materials. This approach eliminates the effects of processing, such as sintering, providing a more intrinsic understanding of the materials' properties. My research has two primary areas of interest: investigating the electronic conductivity of cathode materials at different states of charge and exploring the ionic conductivity of solid-state batteries. While the electronic conductivity phenomenon has mainly been observed in sintered materials, it remains unclear whether single particles exhibit a similar trend. With a growing emphasis on solid-state battery research, understanding the fundamental properties of solid-state electrolytes has become increasingly important."
"I am extremely pleased to learn that Po-Yu has won the Chia-Lun Lo Fellowship," commented Assistant Professor Yiyang Li, who advises Kung. "Po-Yu has already made tremendous contributions to our research on battery materials despite just starting his second year as part of a large, multi-institution Battery Research Hub. I look forward to seeing Po-Yu progress."
Congratulations, Po-Yu!
