TaeeUn Jun awarded selective CoE summer research award

As a recipient of the Wang Chu Chien-Wen Award, TaeEun Jun '27 will be studying ternary nitride materials in the Sun lab this summer.

MSE is pleased to announce that TaeEun Jun '27 has received the Wang Chu Chien-Wen Research Award, one of only two summer research awards given to undergraduates by Michigan Engineering. With the award, Jun will spend the summer studying ternary nitride materials in the lab of Assistant Professor Wenhao Sun.

"I'm most looking forward to really experiencing what a full time research experience is like and being able to give my all this summer without being preoccupied with classes or other projects," said Jun. "Especially in the Sun research group surrounded by so many great graduate students, I'm very excited to be in that kind of environment as a full time researcher. It is almost like a window into my future as I prepare to apply to graduate school for a PhD myself. I also feel very honored to be part of this work, using in-house developed tools like COGITO to uncover new insights about bonding hidden within DFT results. It is exciting to think that this could not only help me build a deeper understanding of material stability, but also contribute in some way to not only the MSE community but also fields in chemistry and physics."

Congratulations, TaeEun!
