MSE is proud to announce that a team from the Michigan Materials Center for Characterization, also known as (MC)2, is one of the recipients of the annual College of Engineering 2020 Excellence in Staff Service Awards.

The (MC)2 team includes Bobby Kerns (center manager), Allen Hunter (staff scientist), Nancy Senabulya (staff scientist), Haiping Sun (staff scientist), and Deanna Wendel (administrator).

The Michigan Center for Materials Characterization is the University of Michigan’s facility dedicated to the micron and nanoscale imaging and analysis of materials. The center, housed in Building 22 of the North Campus Research Complex, provides state-of-the-art instruments, professional training, and in-depth education for students and other internal researchers, fellow academic institutions, and local industry. (MC)2 supports a diverse multi-disciplinary user base of more than 450 users from various colleges and departments, 100+ internal research groups, and over 20 non-academic companies.

"Over the last fours years, the collaborative approach of the (MC)2 team has made (MC)2 a unique and creative hub for materials research, and the cornerstone of many campus research programs," said (MC)2 director Emmanuelle Marquis. "Together, they have created a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all users; collectively created an efficiently run center for the benefit of the campus research enterprise and an effective training center for students and post-docs."

The official awards ceremony, which was to be held this spring, will be rescheduled to a future date, when large gatherings are once again permissible.

Congratulations, Bobby, Allen, Nancy, Haiping, and Deanna!
