The compositional time evolution of a nearly-planar bicomponent lipid membrane is illustrated as the system progresses toward equilibrium. Only the phase boundaries are shown in the image. The time evolution is shown by the different color boundaries, beginning with purple at the earliest time and moving through the color spectrum to red at the latest time shown. The image depicts domain shape changes and coarsening and as the system evolves toward its lowest energy configuration. The 2.25 units on each side of the computational cell represent a length of 45 nm.
