Barry Carter is a Distinguished Affiliate Scientist at CINT, the Center for Integrated Nanotechnology (at SNL and LANL). Publication of the 2nd Edition of the Companion to the TEM textbook is spring 2026; he co-authored the TEM textbook with Dave Williams. He has previously served as the President of both MSA and IFSM (a full member of ICSU); only 1 other American has served as both the General Secretary and President of IFSM in its 70-year history. He is the co-author with Grant Norton of the Ceramic Materials textbook. After 12 years on the Faculty at Cornell, he became the inaugural 3M Harry Heltzer Endowed Chair at the U of MN and then a Department Head at UConn. Prof. Carter is an Hon. Member of IIM, an HonFRMS, and a Fellow of ACerS, MSA, MRS, AAAS and MAS.
